FOOTY legend Peter Matera and wife Yasmine have inadvertently tipped off the Vincent Council about a bunch of unauthorised garage doors around town. In June this year an anonymous resident complained about the solid-front to the Materas’ own garage door, which contravenes Town of Vincent policy requiring open carports if the garage is too close to the road. Town of Vincent staffers recommended the councillors make the Materas pull down the solid door and modify their fence to make it more see through. In pleading their case to the council, Mr Matera wrote that they installed the door as a security measure against people wandering into their garage, and said there was “absolutely no malice intended”. Included in the Materas’ application to council were nine photos of similar closed carports around the town, but they didn’t know this meant the council would be investigating some of these too. “I say this regrettably: once the matter has been brought to our attention the council has a legal requirement to investigate this matter,” council CEO John Giorgi said. He said that of the nine examples reported, five were compliant but the other four were unauthorised and would have to be brought back to council where they’d either be approved retrospectively or taken down.
