CELEBRITIES including Shane Warne, Dawn French, Tim Minchin and Andrew Denton have sent copies of their favourite books to kids at Kyilla Primary School.
Last year the kids wrote to their favourite celebrities asking them to donate an inscribed copy of the book that affected their life the most.
“The kids have written 120 letters to all different people, from Agnetha from Abba, to someone who wrote to Tony Abbott saying he was a great man and he was trying to persuade his parents to vote for him,” organiser and school mum Cherie Hardingham-Braid said.
Year 3 student Nick wrote to conservationist Joan Payne who was awarded an AM in the Queens birthday honours list last year.
“She helps birds and animals and plants and bushes and stuff, and she got a medal from the government,” Nick says.
Year 4 student Dylan wrote to Shane Warne because he wants to “learn how to do some spinners and be better than him”.
Warnie sent in Dr Suess’s Green Eggs and Ham because the book taught him there’s no such thing as the word “CAN’T”. (Yeah, but there’s one that sounds like it that he uses all the time.)
The books are being auctioned off, some online and some at the school fate, to raise money for literacy programs at the school.
The school fete goes down March 19 3pm to 8pm at the school site on Selkirk Street, but before then you can bid on some of the books by following the links at www.kyillaps.wa.edu.au
